It’s come to the end of the road for you, my first WordPress blog.

I’m sure you’ll continue to get 32098423908473294723802987274974 hits a day from that “Dear Diary” post.

But, alas, all great things must come to an end.

There is good news, however.

I have another WordPress blog, that has the same exact theme, and same exact title, and some of the same exact posts. It’s hosted by my friend Cat. Very generous, she is. (Yoda Moment)

So, head on over to http://staci.nerdiphythesoul.com to check out the new bloggy blog.

But for links, you’ll most definately want this one. lol.

Microsoft uses sex to sell!

Posted by Staci on Thursday, March 2, 2006

There was a day when Microsoft ads were a bit more entertaining than the current “dinosaur head” offerings which have of late been baffling adults and scaring small children world-wide.

I love this ad. They should still use it! And more like it. I thought it was pretty funny. lol.

Soft drinks found to have high levels of cancer chemical

Posted by Staci on Thursday, March 2, 2006

Traces of a carcinogenic chemical have been found in soft drinks at eight times the level permitted in drinking water, it was revealed last night. There is a legal limit of one part per billion of benzene in British drinking water. The latest tests revealed levels of up to eight parts per billion in some soft drinks.

I guess I’m getting cancer then.

Tux-shaped computer runs Linux

Posted by Staci on Wednesday, March 1, 2006

This is funny: a company is selling a small plastic “Tux” (the Linux penguin mascot) that contains a small embedded computer. The thing runs — you guessed it — Linux. This has got to be the perfect gift for your favorite Linux hacker.

This is really, really cute. I love it. I want one.

“The Computers

A Dialogue

By: Staci Tipsword and Lynn Rodriguez

(A formal dialogue between a student and her principle, they are talking about the computers at their school)

STACI: (walks into principle’s office) Hello, Ms. Rodriguez?

MS. RODRIGUEZ: (spins around in her chair to face Staci) Good afternoon, Ms. Tipsword. I understand that you have something to talk to me about?

STACI: (walks over to Ms. Rodriguez and shakes her hand) Yes, I would like to talk to you about the computers here at our school.

MS. RODRIGUEZ: Ms. Tipsword, please sit down. No need to be nervous!

STACI: (smiles, then sits down) Okay. Anyway, I believe that the computers at our school are not efficient for our working environment, and they should be replaced.

MS. RODRIGUEZ: Ahh, yes, well Staci you know we have been a little pressed for money lately.

STACI: (talking nervously) I know, and I understand that. If we bought PCs for our school, and sold the Macs that we have, we would save a lot of money. PCs are a lot less expensive than Macs are.

MS. RODRIGUEZ: I see. But all of our educational software that we have is for the Mac. What should we do about that?

STACI: There are a lot more programs that are very educational for the PC. And I bet a lot of the software that you have now also will work on the PC.

MS. RODRIGUEZ: I suppose that could be true. But aren’t there more viruses for PCs than for Macs? Why would we want to jeopardize our network like that?

STACI: (slower and quieter) You don’t have to have Windows on those PCs, which is what would make it get the viruses. You can get Linux, which is an open-source operating system. Also, it’s free!

MS. RODRIGUEZ: So, if we bought these PCs, we would only be paying for the hardware, not the operating system, which would make it a lot cheaper.

STACI: Exactly. And you learn a lot on Linux, especially if you are into computers. And even if you aren’t, it’s still easy to use once it gets set up.

MS. RODRIGUEZ: That sounds very nice, but I’m still not sure we can just dispose of our Macs.

STACI: We should keep some of them, just so everyone can get a taste of all the operating systems, but having an only-Mac school in a PC world is not a good idea. If students don’t get exposed to PCs, they won’t know how to use them when they get out into the real world. (hands Ms. Rodriguez a sheet of paper) It is a proven fact that only 4.11% of the world uses Mac OS at home, as of December 2005.

MS. RODRIGUEZ: You make a good point. We should prepare students for what they have to use in the real world, shouldn’t we? I mean, that is why we have a school.

STACI: And since most of the students use PCs at home, when they get to school and are expected to work on these computers, they are much less efficient. And if they are working on something at home, and try to work on that same assignment at school, it gets a lot more difficult. Not to mention working on it at school and trying to get it home to work on.

MS. RODRIGUEZ: Yes, I suppose that is a bit of a predicament.

STACI: (points to the computer, a Mac, on the principle’s desk) Also, the Mac doesn’t teach the computer savvy at our school, the ones taking the technology classes, much about how computers actually work. You don’t really get to see what goes on behind the operating system.

MS. RODRIGUEZ: Well, Ms. Tipsword, you made a lot of valid points today, and I am glad I had the chance to talk with you. I will definitely think about everything that you’ve brought up. Thank you for stopping by.

STACI: Thank you, Ms. Rodriguez. (shakes her hand) It was great talking with you too.
